Katy Texas started out as the hunting ground for the Karankawa Indian tribes. Katy Texas was home to great herds of buffalo and big flocks of wild ducks, geese, sand hill and whooping cranes, and other game birds, longhorn cattle, deer, and wolves. 

In 1872 the first community in Katy was settled, known as Cane Island. Then in 1895 the Town site of Katy Texas was laid out by J. O. Thomas, L. C. Luckel, and R. M. Cash. It is said to be named Katy because of the M.K.T. Railroad which runs through Katy. The city of Katy was finally incorporated in 1945. Katy Texas was a major player as a rice farming and agricultural center, a rail hub, and one of the largest gas fields in Texas. Katy also developed into a traditional family style community. 

Katy Texas has many historical sites, parks, and museums to visit. There are many ancestral homes in downtown Katy, as well as Heritage Park, and the MKT Depot and Caboose. The Depot and Caboose along with other historical markers of Katy Texas have been acquired and restored by the Katy Heritage Society.

Downtown Katy, currently known as Old Town Katy, or "The heart of Katy", offers a unique shopping experience in a small town atmosphere a mere 15 miles. You will find one of a kind antiques, stores, restaurants, gift and specialty shops, arts and crafts and more.

Katy Texas is located at the intersection of three counties; making it easy for the Katy area to offer distinct opportunities in one place. It has the amenities of a major metropolitan area as well as the advantageous atmosphere of hometown living. The Katy Texas area has strong community spirit, a pleasant subtropical climate, great schools, plenty of affordable housing in safe, clean neighborhoods, and a thriving business climate. Katy Texas is also part of The Katy Independent School District which is considered to be among the top academic systems in Texas.

   City of Katy Population: 14,000

   Katy ISD is the fastest-growing school district in the Houston metro area and one of the  fastest-growing in the state of Texas.

   The Katy area is the site of one of the largest gas fields in the United States since the early forties.

   Katy Mills is the third largest shopping center in the Houston region.

   Park Ten, a multi-use development, is listed by the Houston Business Journal at #11 in terms of total acres on its "Largest Houston-Area Business/Industrial Parks List".

   The first Katy Rice Harvest Festival was held in 1981.
